Brock's Monument:
Closed for restoration
PREVIOUS
CLOSED FOR REPAIRS: The sign indicating the monument is closed, as
seen in the fall of 2005.
The text on the sign above reads:
Brock's Monument Closed pending Restoration in 2006.
This impressive Monument was built in 1854 as the tomb of General
Isaac Brock, the hero of the War of 1812 killed at the Battle of
Queenston Heights on October 13, 1812.
Over the years the monument has undergone several minor repairs.
An inspection in the summer of 2004 revealed that the monument is in
need of restoration.
Further work to determine the extent of deterioration and to develop a
restoration plan is being undertaken.
Brock's Monument will be restored in 2006 following the development of
an approach and a design for the required repairs.
The Parks Canada Agency is dedicated to the presentation and
preservation of Canada's National Historic sites.
