Hull's letters
to Brock at Detroit
A look at the notes written by Hull and passed to
Brock on Aug. 16, 1812

DETROIT — Below are the letters, from the Ontario archives, that U.S.
General William Hull wrote and had delivered to British Major-General
Isaac Brock preceding the astonishing bloodless surrender of Fort
Detroit on Aug. 16, 1812.
The above note reads:
"Sir, the object of the Flagg, which crossed the River, was to
propose a cessation of hostilities for one hour for the purpose
of entering into a negotiation for the surrender of Detroit."
The note above reads:
"General Brock, I propose a cessation of hostilities for one
hour to open negotiations for the surrender of Detroit."
