The veterans of 1812
A special close-up look at the men in the 1861
photo

The photo above was taken at a reunion of 1812 veterans in Toronto in
1861. The photo was taken on Oct. 23, 1861, on the lawn of Sherrif
Jarvis in Rosedale, a Toronto neighbourhood. (Below, I've blown up the
image of each man in the photo.)

A copy of the photo online at the Ontario archives shows the names to
be as follows below (The spellings could be completely wrong... I just
took a copy off the Ontario archives Web site, blew it up in Photoshop
and darkened the text so I could make it out. But it should be pretty
close. Also, the order of the names on the sheet by the photographer is
a bit confusing... two lines of names are given but there's only one row
of veterans.

The names of the men in the photo are:

From left: Rev. Geo. Ryerson, WM. Roe, Jacob Snider, Jas. Richardson
D.D., Jos. Dennis, J. Woodall, Jas. Koss, Col. Bridgford, Geo. Ridout

The photo is fascinating, because it's the only
example of an actual photograph showing veterans
from the War of 1812 I've stumbled upon.
It was taken at a reunion of 1812 veterans on
Oct. 23, 1861 on the lawn of Sherrif Jarvis in
Rosedale, a neighbourhood of Toronto.

Also, the copy of the photo above is cutoff when
compared to the one the Ontario archives has.
It features another man, identified as
Col. Duggan. (Pictured at right).
